COVID-19: Brazil reaches 72.8 thousand deaths, 1.88 million cases

Brazil reached the total of 72,833 deaths as a result of COVID-19 after the 733 new deaths were added from the latest report released by the Health Ministry on Monday (Jul. 13).

The amount of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 1,884,967, considering the 20,286 new cases since figures from Sunday (12). As per the official figures, 657,297 people are being monitored and 1,154,837 have recovered from the disease. There are also 4,011 deaths under investigation.

The increase was one percent, both for the number of deaths and the case tally compared to Sunday (12) statistics. Last week, however, the death toll was up 11.2 percent and the number of confirmed cases up 16.1 percent.

The lethality rate (number of deaths divided by the total amount of cases) stood at 3.9 percent. The morality rate (deaths by 100 thousand people) was reported at 34.7. The incidence of COVID-19 cases in every 100 people is 897.

Figures by state

Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo (17,907), Rio de Janeiro (11,474), Ceará (6,947), Pernambuco (5,652), and Pará (5.293) saw the highest number of fatal cases. Mato Grosso do Sul (167), Tocantins (259), Roraima (397), Acre (430), and Amapá (478) had the lowest number of deaths as per the latest official report.

The highest case tallies since the beginning of the pandemic are São Paulo (374,607), Ceará (137,206), Rio de Janeiro (132,044), Pará (126,509) and Bahia (106,891). Mato Grosso do Sul (13,461), Tocantins (15,307), Acre (16,260), Roraima (22,627), and Rondônia (27,050) have the lowest amount of people infected.
